OUR STORY
Andrea learnt Leadlighting over 25 years ago after purchasing a mid-victorian house in need of renovation. Andrea read and studied about heritage architecture, wanting to keep the front exterior of the house as original as possible. The house originally had leadlights, so, being a 'hands-on' person, Andrea was taught at Australian Stained Glass in Sydney. Andrea made leadlights for her home and the journey continued from there.
Andrea has an extensive art and design background, including Engineering and Architectural Drafting and Interior Design. You may rest assured your design will not only be asthetically pleasing and enhabce your living space, it will also be structurally sound. Andrea has a passion for glass which is reflected in her design and use of colour and texture. A Leadlight or Stained Glass is like a living picture, changing with light.
A.D. Glass Studio use the traditional technique of cutting each piece of glass, leadling, soldering, cementing, blackening then polishing your leadlight. The colour is manufactured and fired into the glass, therefore it will not fade.
Stained Glass, writing or detail within your leadlight, is painted onto the glass and fired in a kiln as seen in church and cathedral stained glass.
Andrea has been teaching Leadlighting and decorative glasswork in Auckland for 15 years, including glass mosaic, slumping and fusing.
